About the Job:
The Assistant Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will provide accounting support to major financial accounting areas, including the accounts payable, staff accountants, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Train new accounting staff, mentor, and review the work of accounting staff.
Work with Controller and accounting supervisors on developing training program and desktop procedures.
Back up to supervisors overseeing staff accountants
Support and help with audit as necessary
Audit liaison for all audit inquiries for Hope Through Housing
Compile and consolidate data from various sources to analyze and report information for use in decision making by management.
Prepare special analysis projects on an as needed basis.
Assist in budget preparation and compile information pertaining to budgets and other financial operations
Develop recurring reports and analytics for various departments.
Prepares ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as required
Maintain strong working relationship with various department heads and acts as liaison to various departments for special financial related matters.
Lead special projects related to area of expertise, which may include process system improvements and other adhoc initiatives
Prepare and review various reconciliations and reports necessary for the audit.
Backup for banking and credit card administration.
Internal Yardi program support, including resident ledgers and accounts receivable.
Hope Through Housing - supervise accounting and month, quarter and year end reporting.
Responsible for creating and revising accounting policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls.
Participate in all company required educational and team building activities.
Attend Company sponsored events that relate to the development of the team, which, from time to time, may include overnight stays at locations away from the employee's home.
Must adhere to the required work schedule established by the company to promote efficient operations.
Take initiative and work closely with direct management and other departments to identify enhancements to processes and assist in development of reporting.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Minimum of seven years experience in accounting management.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
Experience may offset education requirement.
Proven abilities to handle multi-tasking responsibilities, while handling the demands of multiple staff members.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate multiple requests while providing excellent customer service.
Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
Yardi Systems experience preferred.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Principles, practices and techniques of organization, supervision, employee motivation and training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Operate computer and office equipment.
Work is primarily sedentary in nature.
