Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor , Tribal Finance, the Senior Payroll Specialist will assist in the processing of the company payroll.
In this role, this individual will be responsible for performing a variety of payroll tasks, including but not limited to payroll compliance, administrative tasks and working closely with other departments by reviewing time cards, filing and assisting in bi-weekly payroll processing.
This role requires one to be familiar with basic payroll laws, including overtime, part-time and regular pay.
Must have clear written and oral communication skills, as they will be responsible for exercising independent judgments within established limits.
Must also maintain a strict level of confidentiality and act in a manner consistent with all legal and regulatory requirements and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1.
Prepare and submit time data entry by evaluating for accuracy and completeness of regular time vacation payout, salary, leave of absence, overtime and retro.
2.
Detect, review and process issues related to unpaid retroactive hours from a previous pay period within the payroll systems by ensuring that all manual deductions, adjustments, corrections and deposits are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
3.
Analyze and respond to complex matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of payroll policies and procedures and review exceptions to the policy with the Supervisor/Manager for necessary changes /direction.
4.
Interpret data and provide recommendations to management and staff on payroll or per capita rules and procedures for Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
5.
Assist in reconciling payroll related accounts on the Balance sheet and any tax inquiry and/or discrepancies for quarterly and annual filings for both internal and external payroll audits.
6.
Prepare and upload 401(k), Deferred Compensation and Pension payroll deductions to plan administrator and prepare wire transfer of funds to the 401 (k) account for management review and approval.
7.
Develop ad hoc reports relating to payroll activity by utilizing Workday scheduling to distribute reports such as sending overtime and hours paid reports.
Create, populate and upload electronic files for TIPS reports and one time payments/deductions.
8.
Process and monitor garnishment orders and other issues that impact payroll specifications by working with third party vendors on any employee garnishment notices.
9.
Assist in collecting banking information and enrolling new employees into the time clock system for direct deposit setup and initiate deposits on paydays.
Participate in employee orientation, conducted by Human Resources, as it pertains to payroll related topics if assigned.
10.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Education/Experience/Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, required.
Minimum five (5) years related high-volume payroll processing required.
Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
Workday and e-Time software experience highly preferred.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft (Word and Excel) and mid-tier computerized payroll processing systems required.
Must be proficient with 10-key by touch.
Ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure and job ambiguity.
This position requires an individual with highly developed maturity and impeccable communication skills.
Must be personable and professional, capable of using caution and discretion in communication.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
Certified Payroll Processing certificate desirable.
