Key Responsibilities of Position Provide supervision of all children both indoors and outdoors to maintain program quality and compliance with Title 22 (Children must be visually supervised at all times).
Prepare and implement the daily curriculum as assigned by the Lead Teacher and to meet the needs of the children in the classroom and the objectives of the Center.
Implement a Developmentally Appropriate daily schedule as assigned.
Collaborate and work as part of the classroom team to create planned activities for the outdoor environment.
Provide assistance to children in their daily routines such as: toileting, NAEYC appropriate hand washing, rest time, and meal time.
Document and report on children’s attendance/absences and meals, including counts of children and meals served and eaten in assigned classroom keeping accurate documentation for inclusion in audits and reports.
Work with the Lead Teacher to ensure that daily arrival and departure times are well organized.
All children and parents are greeted warmly, hands are washed upon arrival, health checks are conducted and recorded, all children are supervised at all times, and children are actively engaged during the transition time.
Observe and document children’s developmental progress with objective anecdotal records, photographs and work samples as directed by and submitted to the Lead Teacher for inclusion in the child’s portfolio assessment.
Participate in the opening and/or closing routines including preparation for the current day or next day’s program activities.
Create an atmosphere that supports confidentiality of family and children’s information with staff and the community.
The Associate Teacher assists the Lead Teacher and Director/Site Supervisor and assumes responsibility for general supervision, development, and education of all children.
Will assume the role and responsibilities of the Lead Teacher in the absence of the regularly assigned Lead Teacher.
Qualifications Required At least 1+ year of experience in working with children in a center-based program.
Possess a valid California Child Development Permit at a minimum level of Associate Teacher.
Take an average of 1 college class per year towards the renewal or upgrade of the Associate Permit to amount to at least 15-semester units prior to the expiration.
Associate permits that have already been renewed must be upgraded to the Teacher level by the second expiration.
Knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards, toileting, supervision, and food handling.
Knowledge of best practices in Early Childhood Education (Desired Results, Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
Must be willing to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program.
Pass a health screening test, Immunized against: Influenza, Pertussis and Measles, TB test and drug screening Qualities and Traits Ability to read and write English and to communicate at the level required for successful job performance Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Ability to work with disabled or challenging children and diverse populations.
Ability to carry out the physical duties associated with working with young children.
Responsible individual, sensitive to the needs of children.
Preferred Knowledge of DRDP, ASQ, and ECERS preferred.
Infant and Toddler ECE units Additional Requirements: Background Clearance with a Criminal Record and Child Abuse Index Clearance.
Exemption-free status with Community Care Licensing for the duration of employment with FSA.
Current CA Driver’s License Hold and maintain a current and valid pediatric First Aid/CPR (EMSA) card.
Professional Self Development - Attend workshops, conferences, college classes, or in-service staff development opportunities as recommended and/or provided that enhance skills and knowledge in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and as required to maintain the appropriate and required Child Development Permit and/or lead to degrees.
