TITLE: Youth Development Specialist – RUSD Middle Schools
REPORTS TO: TOSA, Lead YDS & Assistant Director of Program Services
DEPARTMENT: Programs
SALARY RANGE: $18.
50 per hour
POSITION STATUS: Part-time, non-exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Implement programs and activities provided by the HEARTS Supervisor.
Must monitor and evaluate situations using good judgment and behavior management techniques.
Create and maintain a safe environment for members and adults within the program space.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
Promote and stimulate program participation with members.
Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
Provide homework help
Program Implementation
Effectively implement and administer services and activities for students.
Ensure the safety of students is considered when implementing programs and activities.
Ensure program space/area is organized and cleaned during and after use.
Supervision of Youth
Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth.
Provide a safe environment through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas.
Never leave members unsupervised and implement and follow School behavioral guidelines.
Professionalism
Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings as required by the supervisor or senior staff.
Maintain a good reputation and moral conduct outside of work, in the community and on social media networks.
Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in the organization’s Employee Handbook, Staff Code of Ethics, and elsewhere.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
May participate in special programs and/or events.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
High School diploma or GED.
Must pass the School District Instructional Aide Test or have a Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience working with children (volunteer work counts).
Able to review and implement lesson plans provided by the district.
Knowledge of youth development stages.
Early Childhood education credits are a plus.
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
Ability to deal with the general public.
Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth.
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Interpersonal skill development and maintenance.
Valid State Driver’s License or California ID card
Must clear TB, Drug Screen and Fingerprint check
CPR & First Aid Certifications - required within 30 days of hire date
