Montessori in Redlands is accepting applications for a full-time position of a Primary Classroom Assistant/Floater working 8:30 am to 5pm , Monday through Friday.
The Classroom Assistant/Floater may work with all ages at our school, 3 years old - 6th grade.
This position provides additional support in classrooms when needed or if a staff member is absent.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, reliable and hard-working with a warm, patient and optimistic personality.
*12 "core units" of Early Childhood Education, is required.

\*\*\** *Classroom Duties:* The assistant’s main job is to assist the teacher in maintaining an orderly, smoothly functioning environment, so that the teacher can give lessons and oversee the children’s work.
This includes the following specific tasks: ● Protect the integrity of lessons given by the teacher by redirecting children and preventing interruptions.
● Respond to direction from the teacher to assist or intervene with children as needed.
● Assist children as needed and as directed by the teacher, but in a manner that supports children’s independence.
● Position yourself in the classroom according to the teacher’s direction, generally maintaining a calm, non-distracting presence.
● Prepare snacks as needed, involving children as appropriate.
● Observe children’s behavior and activity as directed by the teacher and communicate appropriately.
*Arrival and Dismissal* ● Greet the children at the start of the day and facilitate a smooth transition into school.
● Help facilitate an orderly dismissal.
*Lunch, Outdoor Play, and Activities Outside the Classroom* ● Supervise and assist with lunch according to the teacher’s direction.
● Supervise outdoor play according to the teacher’s direction and school policies.
● Help maintain safe, appropriate behavior and safe, orderly use of playground equipment and materials.
● Facilitate appropriate conflict resolution between children.
● Communicate with the teacher and the administration about any playground issues or concerns.
● Assist the teacher in planning age-appropriate, enriching and safe field trips or outings.
*Maintaining the Classroom Environment:* ● Support the children in the classroom and outdoor environment cleaning and maintenance responsibilities they are expected to carry out.
● Clean and maintain order in the classroom daily.
● Replenish supplies as needed.
● Assist with material making, photocopying, etc.

*Record-Keeping* ● Maintain other records and observations as directed by the teacher.
● Assist with managing the annual classroom budget for purchases.
● Help maintain a list of needed class supplies.
● Maintain records of child accidents or incidents.
*Communication* ● Communicate effectively with the teacher and administration as needed.
● Distribute communications and children’s work to family folders.
● Maintain appropriate professionalism in communications with families.
Refer all inquiries about a child’s behavior, along with all comments and concerns expressed by parents, to the teacher or administration.
*General behavior expectations* ● Support children’s independent functioning whenever possible.
● Maintain a friendly, professional, but objective distance in relationships with the children, and a professional relationship with the teacher and the administration.
● Maintain a professional, neat, and clean appearance, and a professional and positive attitude with families, children and staff.
● Be punctual and present in the classroom to assist during agreed-upon work hours.
● Maintain required professional qualifications, including: o continuing education on child development and/or Montessori practice o current CPR/First Aid certification o current TB testing results o current Mandated Reporter training o current Anti-harassment training *Physical Demands* ● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or otherwise communicate, hear and observe the children and their surroundings.
● The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and feet; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
● The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
● Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range.
● Fine hand manipulation.
● Emotional fortitude and ability to regulate emotions and maintain appropriate reactions and responses to emergencies and non-emergency situations that may arise in the classroom.
