This position is expected to establish a programmatic vision and administrative direction leading the ongoing development and delivery of a comprehensive, vibrant, and robust student involvement and engagement strategy guided by best practice, the University’s mission, and strategic plan, as well as data-informed retention and persistence priorities.
Reporting to the Dean of Students, this position will supervise three assistant directors, and a Greek Life coordinator, whose collective portfolios include New Student Orientation, Student Government, the oversite of recognized clubs and organizations, a Campus Activities Board, and Campus Traditions, Outdoor Programs, Recreation, First-Year Journeys, and Greek Life.
This position requires flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel, as required.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Leadership Cultivates a dynamic, experiential, and student-centered environment that provides a model of excellence for student engagement and involvement for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Leads efforts to develop and deliver a robust, engaging, and meaningful New Student Orientation experience in response to and in support of the diverse needs of students, families and supporters, in collaboration with stakeholders from across campus.
Serves as a mentor and role model for professional staff, and graduate assistants, as well as students, particularly those who engage in the areas for which the SDSIS is responsible.
Engages, supports, and, as appropriate, leads the delivery of strategic planning initiatives with support from Student Affairs leadership and relevant campus partners.
Supports the embedding of diversity, equity, and inclusion within all student engagement opportunities; establishes a collaborative partnership with colleagues in the Office of Inclusion and Community to meet this goal with a particular focus on elevating opportunities for meaningful dialogue and diverse engagement.
Serves as a consultant and thought partner in support of campus stakeholders, and event planning process, including a role in the Commencement planning team.
Supports a Campus Activities Board (CAB) that will inform decision-making, support the delivery of campus traditions, and guide the development of a comprehensive programming schedule, as well as the execution of those programs; CAB will also aid in the development and modification of current policy and/or practice.
Administrative Develops material and facilitates processes for the successful onboarding, training, and professional development of direct reports.
Communicates effectively with all members of the team (including student leaders) via regularly scheduled meetings.
Assumes fiduciary responsibility for all accounts within the ADSIS portfolio, manages and directs human resource expectations, and holds team members accountable, as appropriate.
In collaboration with colleagues in Information Technology Services (ITS), guides the implementation of a student organization data management system, to include a shared virtual community space for student organizations.
Leads efforts to develop a comprehensive annual programming calendar, to include weekend events, for Fall and Spring terms by August 1, and December 1, respectively.
In collaboration with the Division’s Communications Coordinator, develops and publishes a student organization resources webpage; creates a communication strategy matrix applicable across the Division that informs how each type of program or service will be marketed; develops and implements a student recognition strategy that promotes student engagement and sense of belonging; reintroduces Bulldog Nation bi-weekly update.
Takes the lead on efforts to refine and improve new student onboarding, including orientation efforts for the various student populations, as well as the broader first-year experience, to include first-year journeys.
Develops, implements, and assesses a training program for recognized student organizations focused on self-governance, effective fiscal management, collaborative learning, ethical leadership, exploration of diversity, and service to the University community and ultimately, society at large.
In collaboration with the Director of Community Standards and, as appropriate, the Greek Life Coordinator, supports the Code of Community Standards processes to include supporting investigation process and protocol, coordinating meetings with students, and assisting with compliance accountability throughout the community standards process.
Develop and implement a process for assessing learning outcomes associated with training, events, and leadership activities.
Maintain and track program participation data and other important data points.
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications Guidelines Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following: Experience/Training/Education: Required Master's degree.
Previous professional Student Affairs and/or Student Activities experience.
Strong verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.

Working knowledge of student support service units that work closely with Greek Life.
