*Job Summary*

* Signing Aides work as paraprofessionals with School District personnel by providing classroom and 1-to-1 *support in American Sign Language for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing* students.
SAs may assist with behavioral interventions as directed and supervised by appropriate District personnel.
They support the development of social, emotional, motor, cognitive, and language skills through daily activities and services selected and assigned by School District personnel based on student's individual IEP and BIP goals.
Hearing Signing Aide needed to be able to provide language access to Deaf students in a mainstream school.
*Essential Function/Responsibilities*
_*Basic Duties*_
* Language model
* Work 1-on-1 or in small groups to support educational goals
* Classroom assistance, check comprehension, redirect focus, the transition from area to area or task to task
* Maintain educational log
* Consult with the educational team to determine appropriate support and intervention
* Assist students with the use of materials, technology, and equipment
* Support development of communication and social skills
* Support and maintain classroom policies
* Non-intervention monitoring of medical conditions; choking, seizures, asthma, diabetes
* Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned
* Toileting assistance (under age 5)
* Assists in crisis prevention and intervention
* Perform other related duties as assigned

*Languages*
Fluency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)
*Education / Experience Requirements*
* High school diploma or GED
_AND_
* \*Four years of formal experience working with children
_OR_
* Higher Education - Completion 6 units of course work in Child Psychology, Child Development, Audiology, Speech, or Sign Language interpreting
*Physical Abilities*
This job may include sitting, kneeling, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, or crawling on the floor with younger students.
It also may include a high level of physical activity and exertion in various settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, field trips, etc.
