Position:
We are looking for a passionate, experienced teacher for visually impaired who has strong communication skills and a dedication to helping students succeed.
This role is full time and you'll be working at San Bernardino City Unified School District.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Evaluate students' visual functioning levels, competencies and needs
Develop IEPs with goals and objectives based on students' needs
Instructs students using a variety of techniques and skills including but not limited to braille reading and writing, large print/visual aides, listening skills and tactile skills
Make referrals to other programs or services that may benefit the students
Ability to build good relationships with children, parents, Teachers and Social Workers
Ability to work 1:1 or in small groups with students
Ability to work well with children from different backgrounds
Well-organized and self-driven to devise and adopt new techniques for teaching and keeping the student(s) on task
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Compassionate, kind and patient with kids
Excellent leader and mentor for students
Strong attention to detail and an inquisitive mind to understand each individual student
Knowledge of technology resources i.
e.
magnifiers, zoom featured and popular apps to assist the visually impaired.
Experience or certification in orientation and mobility desirable
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Must have a strong desire to work with a wide array of student (age, race, ethnicity, etc).
Be highly flexible and agile (we are living and working in a very dynamic time right now).
Be highly collaborative, team-oriented and customer service driven.
Posse skills in braille, typing, writing

Licensing/Credential and/or Education Requirements:
Possession and maintenance of a valid California teaching credential authorizing instruction to visually impaired students
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time.
Additionally, physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds.
Stooping/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
