The Job
The Probation Department is recruiting for a Staff Training Instructor Trainee to assess, plan, coordinate, evaluate and provide in-service training.
Training Instructors also develop curricula and course materials, establish objectives and determine course content, sequence, and delivery systems; deliver instruction and present information to audiences of all sizes and compositions and develop evaluation instruments to measure effectiveness of training programs.
They confer with subject matter experts and program staff to determine training needs and ensure technical accuracy of training materials.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Promotion: Trainees work under close supervision while acquiring the necessary skills and experience to qualify for Staff Training Instructor and must promote within twelve (12) months or be terminated.
Travel: Travel throughout the County is required and employees will be required to make provisions for transportation (mileage reimbursement is available at current IRS rates).
At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained by the individual providing the transportation.
Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation that may include a polygraph.
Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in English, education, business/public administration, communication, organizational development, criminal justice, computer science, natural science, or social/behavioral science.
A list of completed college coursework or copy of legible transcripts MUST be provided if the applicant does not possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields listed above.
-AND-
Experience: Two (2) years full-time equivalent professional-level OR supervisory experience in law enforcement or social service environment -AND- One (1) year of experience conducting formal or informal training and mentoring for adult learners on a regular basis.

Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a qualifying field listed above and experience with computer programs used in training environments such as Information Mapping, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.
Experience developing and delivering curricula or course materials on Probation related topics is highly desirable.
In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in public speaking and training public agency personnel and will possess excellent communication and collaboration skills.
