It’s possible! Onsite from the Fontana, CA Research & Development Facility The Research Engineer role will be involved in technology development projects that focus on creating solutions using high-volume machining and system design.
They will work closely with different teams within the Global R&D community and may also have some interactions with teams outside of R&D.
This position will involve contributing to the execution of R&D technology strategies under the guidance of the R&D Leadership Team.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to handle challenging problem statements from initial concepts to manufacturing implementation with support and mentorship from senior team members.
Typical travel can range up to 25%, depending on project phase.
What You’ll Do: Engage closely with product development and other technology teams to thoroughly comprehend the challenges associated with existing solutions and strategize innovative approaches to address gaps effectively.
Play a pivotal role in the development of new systems, features, and accessories, emphasizing increased installation efficiency and effectiveness.
Actively generate, assess, and experiment with new concepts to ensure optimal performance.
Transform conceptual ideas and designs into functional prototypes by employing rapid prototyping techniques, mock-ups, and other relevant methodologies.
Continuously refine prototypes to ensure a seamless transition from concept to implementation.
Take a lead role in guiding the integration of technical solutions into James Hardie's manufacturing process.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to facilitate a smooth transition from concept to practical implementation within JH manufacturing facilities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive SOPs and quality documentation tailored to the specific needs of the project.
Ensure that all processes adhere to the highest quality standards and industry regulations.
Assist the Product Development and Application Engineering teams in evaluating and rapidly iterating solutions.
Actively participate in the development and refinement process to ensure swift and effective problem-solving.
Work closely with key technical personnel and manufacturing plants to thoroughly assess and validate the practicality and viability of proposed solutions.
Ensure that all solutions align with manufacturing capabilities and standards.
Actively participate in innovation sessions and workshops focused around fine tuning your innovation skills.
Foster and maintain a culture of ZeroHarm: Ensure that James Hardie’s operations are always in line with Work Health and Safety Requirements.
Report any incidents, hazards, near misses or “at-risk” behaviors in a timely fashion.
Comply with any reasonable request related to health and safety including attending health and safety related training, participating in health and safety initiatives / activities, and ensuring that either your acts or omissions do not place any person at risk.
Responding to any hazard or incident that is raised by another James Hardie team member and provide or seek the support required to allow them to work safely and respond to the identified workplace issue.

What You’ll Bring: Essential Criteria: •Ability to identify and solve complex problems.

•Proficient in using 2D drafting and sketching tools to create detailed product assemblies, concept sketches, stack-up tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
•Familiar with utilizing various technical risk assessment and problem-solving tools, such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), KT-Analysis, KJ Analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), and similar methodologies.
•Ability to communicate concepts and ideas effectively to individuals at all levels within the organization, fostering clear understanding and collaboration.
Master’s degree in Engineering, with preference for Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Bachelors degree required (degree must be from an accredited institution) •Previous experience in the fields of R&D, innovation, and/or product development.
