It’s possible! Onsite from the Fontana, CA Research & Development Facility The Senior Research Engineer will work alongside industry-leading engineers and scientists within our global research and product development team.
In this role you will provide engineering leadership to develop and pursue research to advance our technology areas to fundamentally transform the building industry and ensure sustainable profitable business growth.
This position requires a motivated, agile, performance driven individual to lead the design, selection, installation and commissioning of process equipment and support decision making through controlled process investigations.
What You’ll Do: Specification and commissioning of new process equipment Lead the experimental work on pilot and production scale equipment.
Demonstrating sound problem-solving ability and hands-on approach to develop fundamental process knowledge Lead and provide on the floor analytical decisions based on the immediate outcomes of the trial and prepare report for the final trial outcomes Deliver presentations and make recommendations to the R&D Senior Leadership team based on strong scientific experimentation and data analysis Collaborate effectively with manufacturing personnel, vendors, and suppliers to build understanding of opportunity areas to help drive insights to accelerate projects Conduct technology scans and gather industry insights to progress our foundational knowledge in our key technology areas Lead the design and operation of new, high-tech machines and processes Coach and Mentor junior engineers and scientists sharing expertise and information with others Ensure that James Hardie’s operations are in line with Work Health and Safety Requirements at all times.
Report any incidents, hazards, near misses or “at-risk” behaviours in a timely fashion.
Comply with any reasonable request related to health and safety including attending health and safety related training, participating in health and safety initiatives / activities and ensuring that either your acts or omissions do not place any person at risk.
Providing supervision and training to others to allow them to perform their work safely.
Responding to any hazard or incident that is raised by another James Hardie team member and provide or seek the support required to allow them to work safely and respond to the identified workplace issue.

What You’ll Bring: Demonstrated ability to develop and understand process flow diagrams, piping, and instrumentation diagrams.
Demonstrated hands on approach with rapid prototyping and problem solving.
Collaboration and stakeholder management skills Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with the ability to relate well and co-operate with people at all levels.
Advanced skills with the standard features of the MS Office Suite, including SharePoint and Microsoft Project Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering or similar required.
Possesses a strong network of external manufacturing related specialists Understanding of the manufacturing process Minimum of 3 years’ experience in manufacturing industry Demonstrated experience in DoE (Design of Experiments) and executing process or product factory trials.
Demonstrated experience in process design, operation and commissioning of process equipment including pilot lines.
