Description: PURPOSE: The Mechanical Engineer II works closely with Engineering leadership and Program Management to perform engineering, scientific and/or technical aspects of product design, development and productionisation.
The individual is responsible for conducting the research, analysis and testing required to develop new innovative products, devices, equipment, methods, materials, and/or processes.
The individual shall collaborate with internal and external resources while developing and improving products and processes to achieve organization objectives.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: · Design and Development · Collaborate with consultants and industrial designers by reviewing and refining proposed design concepts, models and solutions.
· Optimize concept designs using FEA, CFD and 3D printing techniques to verify performance.
· Establish performance requirements for development of acceptance test procedures (ATP).
· Assist in defining and developing detailed engineering drawing packages.
· Perform tolerance analysis and determine product fabrication specifications.
· Work to established project/program schedules.
· Prototype and Test · Responsible for the fabrication, evaluation and testing of maturing prototype designs.
· Develop test methodology and analysis that verify desired performance.
· Write clear and concise engineering reports to document component and product test results.
· Collaborate and support test engineering with test hardware.
· Configuration Management · Review and Approve ECRs and ECOs for completeness and accuracy while assuring all related documents are revised as required and part dispositions correctly identified.
· Work with document control to maintain evolving design configurations during development.
· Planning and Leadership · Provide inputs in developing basis of estimates (BOE) to establish scope, hours and scheduling.
· Ability to lead Interns, etc.
in performing assigned tasks.
· Continuous Improvement · Provide support to the Process Manufacturing and Quality Departments to resolve in-house production problems and supplier issues relating to product performance and quality attainment.
· Support the quality engineering function in the development of inspection methods and inspection instructions.
Requirements: EDUCATION: The individual shall possess a BS Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
(MS in Engineering preferred).
EXPERIENCE: The individual shall possess 2-5 years of hands-on experience in an engineering sustainment or product development team environment.
Experience modeling using Solidworks, performing CFD and FEA simulations and drawing creation is required.
Familiarity with breathing valves, Military Specifications and AS9100 quality system a plus.
The individual shall have practical knowledge and experience with measuring pressure and airflow, metal fabrication, plastics processing & tooling and additive manufacturing techniques.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: · Strong computer skills using Solidworks Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, CFD and FEA Simulation software and business applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook.
· Ability to create, read and understand engineering drawings with expertise in the area of basic engineering drafting practices, principles, standards, and conventions (ASME Y14.
5, ASME Y14-100, ASME Y14.
24, ASME Y14.
35, ASME Y14.
34, DOD-100, and Global design/drafting standards).
· Create 3D CAD models of fidelity appropriate for the task; higher fidelity models for items that are far along in the design process and lower fidelity models if appropriate for less mature designs.
· Be mechanically inclined, have technical and practical knowledge in the design of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
· Detail oriented, curious, motivated, results-driven and possess strong communication and team skills.
· Ability to work independently within scope, manage multiple tasks, prioritize daily activities and produce accurate timely work.
· Prepare and present analysis and technical options for internal and external consideration and review.
· Understand material selection for component design and assembly principles with a focus on DFM.
· Familiarity with AS9100 procedures for Design Reviews, Inputs/Outputs, and New Product Introduction stages and gates to ensure customer and company requirements are met.
· Ability to run proprietary modeling and simulation programs written in Python.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Internal: Interacts frequently with local engineering staff and other departments on a daily basis.
External: Communicates, as required, with others outside the Company, such as Government personnel, suppliers, subcontractors and customers.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, and numerical intelligence.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of occasionally performing work in the warehouse, which is subject to moderate changes in temperature.
