Job Description
This position encompasses two major functions and a number of other minor responsibilities associated with laboratory and quality control work.
The two major responsibilities involve: (1) all aspects of controlling the quality of manufactured products and, (2) assisting laboratory chemist(s) with various assigned duties as required from time to time.
Responsibilities and Job Duties Quality Control Duties and Functions: Check** **and monitor batch tickets before they are released to the production floor to ensure that there are no errors or omissions, check for signoffs, batch numbers, dates and that all pre-adjustments are made to batch ticket prior to production.
Ensure that all materials control systems and procedures are followed.
Perform all QA tests on incoming raw materials.
Performall required QC tests on batches manufactured in the plant.
If batch does not meet specifications make necessary approved adjustments to bring batch into spec.
After exhausting known methods for adjusting batch call on Chemist for input.
Maintain proper QC records of all batches tested and this includes adjustments made to batches.
Monitor production process to ensure that approved procedures are being followed by compounders.
Prior to compounding, check materials for batches as frequently as necessary to monitor compounder accuracy.
Maintain lab for maximum efficiency, cleanliness, safety, and neatness.
Perform long term shelf stability tests on selected batches.
Perform random weight checks on packaged products.
Minimum 3 checks per day per product.
Prepare Certificates of Analysis for OEM accounts (private labels).
Prepare and ship samples to OEM accounts.
Supervision of proper reworking of rejected off spec batches.
Manage proper disposal of waste material under the direction of the Plant Manager.
Prepare and distribute monthly reports indicating unusual additions, rework material and reason.
Catalogue and store retain samples for a minimum of 12 months.
** Laboratory Assistant Duties and Functions:**1.
Prepare Research and Development testing assemblies for project work as instructed by Chemist.
Perform Research and Development testing on prepared assemblies as instructed by Chemist.
Produce laboratory sample batches of standard or experimental product formulations as instructed by Chemist.
Report results of laboratory formulations and sample testing in Lab Notebook as instructed by Chemist.
Prepare and distribute results of laboratory formal reports to Laboratory personnel as requested by Chemist.
Maintain R&D Lab for maximum efficiency, cleanliness, safety, and neatness.
** ** ** Housekeeping** Maintain a clean and safe working environment and to ensure the cleanliness of the quality control lab and equipment by developing routine housekeeping practices and maintenance programs.
Rework Complete the rework of materials by developing and implementing a regular rework schedule, training employees, and reporting the progress and by documenting the results.
Safety Maintain a safe working environment by following the “Safety Rules & Guidelines” and the “Code of Safe Practices” as defined in the “Employee Safety Handbook” and as defined by company policy.
Guide and promote safe work performance by enforcing safety policies, implementing safety campaigns, training staff in safe practices and first aid.
** Other Duties ** Analyze and report on recommended methods for the disposal of scrap material and rework to avoid accumulation.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, i.
e.
assisting in any area assigned.
Ensure all measuring instruments within the lab are calibrated and records are maintained.
Works with R&D Chemist to maintain calibration log.
Demonstrates leadership and commitment with respect to our QMS by taking accountability of the effectiveness of the QMS; by establishing a quality policy and quality objectives that are compatible with the direction of the organization; that both policy and objectives are communicated, understood, and applied within the organization; ensuring integration of QMS requirements into the organization’s business processes and by promoting awareness of a process approach and risk-based thinking.
Provides the necessary resources for the QMS; communicated the importance of effective quality management and of conforming to QMS requirements; ensuring that the QMS achieves intended results; engaging with, directing, and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of the QMS; promote improvement and support other members of the management team to demonstrate their leadership as it applies to their area of responsibility.
Demonstrates leadership and commitment by ensuring that the client’s requirements and applicable regulatory and statutory requirements are met; that risks and opportunities that could affect our products and services have been addressed; that our focus is on consistently providing client satisfaction.
Maintains the standards and commitment as defined in the Companies quality policy.
Ensure that the responsibilities and authorities for relevant roles are assigned and communicated throughout the organization.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements ** Education & Experience **1.
Minimum education high school diploma.
Preferred two years community college with emphasis in chemistry and mathematics.
Prefer exposure to development and manufacturing of adhesives, epoxy, urethane, coatings, or inks.
Prefer exposure to Polymer and material science specific to adhesives and coatings.
Prefer exposure in dealing with customers.
Strong communication ability, effective leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills required.
Prefer exposure to knowledge, understanding and experience of hazardous materials and handling.
Computer literacy with such spreadsheet programs as Microsoft Excel, Database programs such as Microsoft Access, graphics programs and Word processing such as Microsoft Word.
Excellent record keeping skills and a demonstrated mastery in mathematics.
An ability to respond to changes in the business environment as well as job function.
** Skill in** Strong analytical ability; the ability to solve complicated and technical problems pertaining to manufacturing, safety and routine quality control; operating a computer terminal, calculator and typewriter keyboard quickly and accurately; production of routine reports and correspondence; maintaining accurate records and controls; speaking clearly and distinctly; understanding pertinent procedures and functions quickly and applying them without immediate supervision; establishing and maintaining effective relationships with those contacted in the course of business.
