Staff Accountant
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Controller/Accounting Administrator, the Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with budget and close processes, conducting internal audits, maintaining documentation, and responding to information requests by management and for auditing purposes.
This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with various accounting principles and regulations to include, but not limited to: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Office of Management (OMB) cost principles, and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
Essential Duties:
Maintain financial reports, records, and general ledger chart of accounts.
Compile and submit all supporting documentation as required by the funder for monthly or quarterly billing.
Contributing to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
Maintain fixed assets module and inventory making recommendation for write-offs.
Prepare journal entries.
Meeting processing and reporting deadlines.
Responding to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with audits.
Review cash receipt and payment posting transactions for proper coding and allocation.
Prepare and record accounts payable accrual schedules.
Review proposed subcontractor agreements for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contract requirements.
Prepare budget import files and import approved budgets into the financial software system.
Update the budget model for significant changes in the business environment.
Maintain any department-wide expense allocations approved by CFO.
Assist in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Controller (Directly) CFO (Indirectly)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with major/focus in finance, economics, statistics, or business administration or equivalent experience.
At least two (2) years’ experience in a complex financial support position with responsibilities for budgets, and which includes experience with business analytics, demonstrable excellence in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex management tasks, to work independently, and to balance multiple priorities
Working knowledge of GAAP.
Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
Promote a positive attitude and professional work ethic at all times when interacting with managers, employees, etc.
Ability to promote a positive team-oriented atmosphere
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to perform specialized technical and clerical functions.
Ability to be organized and produce accurate results while meeting established deadlines.

At least three years of experience in the capacity of financial administrative support in a similar non-profit organization
Demonstrated knowledge of budgetary process and analysis
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing administrative policies and procedures
Two years of demonstrated successful experience in a financial setting that includes concrete work experience such as tracking and analyzing budget trends, applicable use of Excel functionality such as pivot tables and VLOOKUPS.
Licenses & Certifications
CA Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance
CPR Certification (will train)
