After School Chess Instructor - Elementary to Middle School Students *Job Type:* Contract - After School 2-6 hrs *Job Description:* We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Chess Instructor to teach chess to our elementary and middle school students.
The ideal candidate should possess a passion for chess, enjoy working with children aged 6-14 years, and have a talent for making the game engaging and educational.
*Responsibilities:* * Design and execute engaging chess lessons tailored for students aged 6-13, ensuring they are both fun and instructional.
* Work with groups of 10-20 Students * Introduce and teach chess principles, strategies, and techniques to students of varying skill levels.
* Conduct group lessons, as well as provide individualized instruction to students, ensuring they grasp and retain the chess concepts.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where students of all backgrounds and skill levels feel welcome.
* Assess students' progress in chess understanding and techniques, providing feedback and adjusting instruction as needed.
* Collaborate with other instructors and school staff to ensure the program's success and to integrate chess lessons with other educational initiatives, where applicable.
* Organize and manage classroom behavior, ensuring that the students remain focused and enjoy their learning experience.
* Utilize a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles, making sure all students are catered to.
* Stay updated on new chess strategies, teaching methods, and educational resources to continually improve the curriculum.
* Occasionally organize and oversee chess tournaments or matches to enhance the students' practical experience.
*Qualifications:* * Prior experience teaching chess, especially to younger students, is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of chess principles, strategies, and techniques.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex chess concepts in an understandable manner to young students.
* Patience and the ability to manage and engage multiple students at once.
* A background in education or experience working in a school setting is a plus.
