TITLE: Youth Development Specialist - Housing SB REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator and Director of Program Services DEPARTMENT: Programs SALARY RANGE: $18.
00 - $18.
50 per hour POSITION STATUS: 20-22 hours per week, non-exempt PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Youth Development Specialist (YDS) works with a group of members who participate in our Housing Site Out of School Time program.
Our staff-to-member ratios are currently 1 to 20.
Our Youth Leaders make a positive impact on a child’s life every single day.
Youth Leaders are role models and mentors.
Together with their team, they work to foster the 5 key elements of Boys & Girls Clubs: A Safe, Positive Environment, A Sense of Belonging, Fun, Opportunities and Expectations, and Recognition.
Being an After School Youth Leader is meaningful work.
Team members work schedule is based on our contract and may not operate all year round.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Motivate and encourage program participation with students.
Provide homework/academic support to students in K-12th grade.
Provide a safe environment for students through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas.
Create an engaging, positive, and fun environment for students.
Provide constant, active supervision; implement and follow School behavioral guidelines.
Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth.
Must be able to work 5 days per week.
OTHER FUNCTIONS: Assists other team members or Site Coordinators as may be required for supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: High School diploma or GED.
Candidates must be 18 years or older.
Would like the candidate to have 48 semester/72 quarter college units, College Degree.
Experience working with children (volunteer work counts).
Knowledge of youth development stages is a plus.
Must be able to follow directions and perform work activities as assigned by Supervisors or Leads.
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team Must be able to set a positive example for the students.
Ability to plan and implement curriculum activities for youth.
Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
Valid State Driver License or California ID card Must clear all Background checks & Drug Screen CPR & First Aid Certifications - required within 2 months of hire date (we provide certification courses).
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files, carts, and file cabinet drawers and reach overhead.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

The job requires about 50% walking, 25% standing, and 25% sitting.
Note: This position will be in-person working at a school site.
We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure our employees' safety.
Substitutes work on an on-call basis; based on their availability.
Sometimes they are notified before to the day needed but can be notified a couple of hours before a shift begins.
