JOB The Riverside County Sheriff's Department has an opportunity for a IT Supervising Systems Administrator that will be assigned to the Technical Service Bureau in Riverside.
The IT Supervising Systems Administrator will supervise staff engaged in designing, programming, installing, configuring, and/or maintaining computer resources supporting application and database servers in a mid-range/mainframe and/or client server environment.
The incumbent will exercise the full scope of supervision, which includes accountability for coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; participating in the employee selection process; training, coaching, counseling, and mentoring employees.
Additionally, the incumbent will also have authority to approve timesheets and leave requests, investigate complaints and performance issues and issue formal disciplinary action.
Please note: advancement to the IT Supervising Systems Administrator class requires competitive selection through the open recruitment process.
The IT Supervising Systems Administrator class is distinguished from the IT Systems Administrator III in that the latter is the senior or lead level that does not include the full scope of supervision.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES • Supervise, assign, review, and evaluate the work of staff performing systems administration work; plan, organize, and provide opportunities to develop and maintain job-related competencies.
• Determine hardware and operating system resource requirements.
• Plan and implement hardware installation and upgrades; maintain physical technical infrastructure, directories, and system documentation; plan and implement operating system and application upgrades.
• Monitor resource use, and tailor and tune to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Conduct analysis of network and system management, capacity planning, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.
• Develop utility programs and shell scripts (e.
g.
, backup, security); evaluate software; assist with application testing.
• Develop system security and firewall requirements based on industry standards and management preferences; plan and implement systems backups, coordinating recoveries, including offsite disaster recovery.
• Research, evaluate, and test proposed products, product versions, and systems solutions; coordinate design, installation, and support activities with application vendors.
• Evaluate conformance of system security and database integration requirements with County standards.
