General Description:
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Yard Hostler to join our team.
The Yard Hostler will be responsible for moving trailers and other equipment around the yard and ensuring they are properly positioned for loading and unloading.
The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Truck drivers are primarily responsible for delivering pallets, picking up pallets, and servicing accounts in the assigned route, being responsible for safe driving and obeying DOT regulations.
All drivers must be in possession of a class “A” license with double endorsements.
As a point of contact and representative Western Pallet Supply & Logistics, drivers are expected to present and be well-groomed, neat and professional appearance at all times.
Job requirements: Yard Hostler
Move trailers to and from loading docks according to loading and unloading schedules
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of hostler truck and report any issues or defects to management
Maintain accurate records of all yard moves
Direct and assist other drivers when needed
Make sure all safety protocols are followed when operating equipment, including wearing proper protective gear
Ensure trailers are properly chocked or locked when parked, and report any maintenance or repair needs to management
Communicate with warehouse and logistics personnel to coordinate trailer movements and ensure timely delivery and receipt of goods
Perform other related duties as needed (and as qualified).
Job requirements: Class A
Start each day off by doing a Pre-Trip inspection of your truck & trailers as regulated by DOT.
Report any repairs needed via WPSL repair logs, follow the systems direction to report vehicle repairs on a daily basis.
Be sure to verify all freight (pallets) are properly tied down, cross-tied and no loose wood/lumber is on the trailer that would cause harm.
Drivers are responsible for the safety of the load.
Check and double check your straps & ropes.
Check the schedule before and after each shift for instructions and any changes.
Schedules are provided the night before, but are the sole driver’s responsibility to make sure you know where you are going the next day.
If you’re unaware, ask the dispatcher or management.
Conduct all activities within the guidelines of all company policies and procedures, and within local, state, and DOT law and regulations.
Paperwork to be filled out entirely, Name, Customer, Address, BOL #, Trailer & Truck number, Damage, Date & Times.
All paperwork must be signed by their driver and customer, follow specific instructions per dispatcher for each set of paperwork.
Check in with dispatch after each delivery/pickup.
All completed paperwork to be turned in at the end of the shift.
Understand and be able to completely fill out driver logs, be sure to obey DOT regulations.
Turn a copy in at the end of each shift.
Park trailers in the proper locations, unstrap flatbed loads, and be sure to open doors of VANs before parking them.
Every load that is returned, paperwork must be left with the trailer to identify the reference number, date, trailer #, and the driver's name.
Report all accidents and injuries immediately to the dispatcher and fill out the proper accident reports the day of the occurrence.
Do not text or talk on cell phones while driving.
Drivers are suggested to use a “hands free” headset.
When at the Customer
Always check into the office or shipping and receiving department.
Be sure to get a clear and legible signature and name on the paperwork, along with the date and time.
Be courteous to all customers’ employees.
We are their guest and the driver is the image of our company, always be courteous, don’t use adult language, and be respectful.
Do NOT exceed 5 MPH, or posted limit while at or inside the customers parking lots, or driveways.
Follow all customers’ policies
If waiting more than 1 hour, call the dispatcher.
Continue calling every 20 minutes until you are loaded/unloaded.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a valid California Class A Driver License, with DMV printout within 30 days
Doubles endorsements
Have 1 year of class A driving experience
Pre-employment Drug screen required
Total customer service orientation
Safety-first mentality
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
Ability to throw straps, and tie flatbed loads down
Able to sit for extended periods of time
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Will primarily work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Exposure to dust and loud noise (hearing protection is provided)
Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and moving forklifts
