JOB SUMMARY The Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for one tenure-track, open rank professor position in Counseling beginning August 2024.
The Counseling program is a master's degree program that houses two distinct concentrations: professional counseling and school counseling.
The professional counseling concentration prepares students to become Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC), as regulated by The California Board of Behavioral Sciences, while the school counseling concentration prepares students for a California Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS), as granted by the California Teaching Commission.
We offer a dual track option as well, where students are prepared for LPCC & PPS qualifications concurrently.
In both tracks, students are trained from a social constructionist narrative framework in practice oriented counseling courses.
We also offer a minor in Counseling and Social Change, as this minor intends to offer an interdisciplinary approach that invites students to explore the ways social and political contexts shape people's experiences, relationships, and the stories that shape us.
We are seeking energetic and innovative candidates who have a background in counseling and/or school counseling with particular interest and practice in postmodern counseling with emphasis on equity, social justice, restorative justice, and culturally sustaining approaches.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES Responsibilities include teaching primarily graduate courses in the evenings, practicum and fieldwork/placement supervision, scholarly activity, curriculum development, and service to the university and community.
Teaching undergraduate classes in the minor may be available based on interest, enrollment and need.
Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be required to teach a range of courses in clinical counseling and/or school counseling at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
In addition, new faculty are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the University's strategic plan.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS A doctoral degree in Counseling or a related field is required by time of appointment.
Candidates with ABDs will be considered.
Candidates graduating by August 2024 will be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrate excellence in teaching at the college level.
Experience in counseling in mental health and community settings and/or in schools; Experience in cultivating community partnerships and collaboration.
Knowledge and training in social constructionist/post-structural therapies, with evidence of ability to incorporate this into clinical training and teaching pedagogy.
Experience in service learning and student fieldwork/placement supervision.
Candidates with a California PPS credential and/or an LPCC (or equivalent, such as an LCSW, LMFT) license or eligibility for a license to practice counseling in the community will be preferred.
Demonstrate evidence of scholarly and/or grant activity, publication, and innovation is valued, as demonstrated commitment to equity, social justice, diversity, and culturally sustaining approaches in the field of counseling.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
