Description: POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision, perform paraprofessional instructional activities in the classroom and outside play area; assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences for individual or small groups of students in assigned programs or grades/subjects; supervise students; perform supportive clerical tasks for students and school personnel; help maintain a positive, safe and developmentally appropriate class setting in accordance with all relevant laws, policies and procedures.
This position may be assigned to a variety of school settings.
Incumbents are expected to learn student supervision and instructional techniques for the specific area of school service to which assigned, such as special education, special needs, ELL, bilingual, general classroom, physical education and campus assignments.
Duties encompass a wide range of supportive tasks for students and staff in the program to which assigned.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist instructional personnel with the development and presentation of learning materials, instructional and physical education exercises in compliance with curriculum and learning standards.
Assist students in safe learning, recreational activities and physical education to promote independent linguistic, physical, social, pre academic, and motor skills development.
Use positive reinforcement strategies and techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior, self-regulation, and understanding of human diversity.
Assist in the development of a variety of instructional materials.
Collect, assembles, catalog and distribute resource materials.
Perform general clerical duties for staff, including filing, typing and duplicating.
Maintain a variety of reports and records.
Assist in maintaining a neat, orderly and attractive learning environment.
Operate learning equipment.
Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning and physical education activities.
Monitor and assist students through drill, practice and study activities following the presentation of instructional and physical education concepts by teaching personnel.
Provide a wide range of learning activities for students.
Read to students, explain words and meanings, rephrase materials and provide similar learning examples.
May communicate in an assigned foreign language with students to help clarify instructions, understand content and answer questions.
Assist students engaged in exploratory or research projects.
Review and correct student assignments and provide remedial assistance.
Assist in the management and shaping of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and models.
Supervise classroom, playground, cafeteria and study trip activities and maintain appropriate discipline.
Maintain appropriate student disciple in the absence of the teacher.
Know and follow all safety procedures.
Fill out accident and injury reports.
May participate in meeting the health and hygiene needs of students on a systematically assigned basis.
Participate in staff meetings, as directed.
Attend and assist with special events (Open House, parent conferences, etc.
), as directed.
Make suggestions for improvement to address safety issues, maximize resources, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School diploma or GED and one of the following: completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (45 semester units); obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness) Minimum one (1) year paid experience working with children in a group setting; may require experience with specific ages Knowledge of basic concepts of child growth and development; developmental behavior characteristics; student behavior management strategies and techniques; appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar; basic arithmetical concepts; routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and proceduresAbility to demonstrate understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups; communicate effectively in oral and written form in English and support English language learners, as required by the assignment; perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment; learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults Demonstrated passion for children and their care and development REQUIRED OF ALL EMPLOYEES Aspire to be a Christian role model in accordance with 1 Timothy, chapter 3 Maintain a consistent relationship with God, demonstrate a strong and growing walk with Christ and live a Biblical lifestyle that honors Christ Be personally committed to the ideals, values and mission of WOL Ability to appropriately handle confidential information; refraining from gossip Ability to resolve issues according to Matthew 18 Be/become a Member at either Water of Life or a church with a similar Statement of Faith, and regularly attend its weekend services.
