Job Summary: The Case Manager, Radiation Medicine, serves as a key member of the patient care delivery team in a Magnet Recognized academic tertiary care facility.
Applies specialized case management, utilization review and care coordination methodologies and practices to a culturally diverse and complex patient population.
Orchestrates cohesive patient-centered care practices which address the needs of the patients from admission through discharge and across the continuum of care for radiation medicine, proton therapy and international patients seeking services at Loma Linda University Health (LLUH).
Achieves and maintains in-depth knowledge about oncology practices for patients with malignant and non-malignant tumors that are treated with radiation medicine, proton therapy, and other related clinical services as needed.
Understands the uniqueness of cancer and cancer-related diseases and the sensitivity of communicating with patients facing the unknown.
Relates courteously, compassionately and tactfully with patients and their families.
Utilizes clinical expertise, discretion and independent judgment to perform the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) independently and in accordance with LLUMC's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory).
Determines medical necessity and appropriateness of radiation medicine and proton therapy treatment plans.
Serves as a clinical resource on submitting clinical appeals, documentation, and coding and clinical account review.
Collaborates with the physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare team to plan care, resource utilization and timely discharge from services with appropriate referrals.
Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care and professionalism.
Demonstrates ability to work well under stress in a fast-paced environment performing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
Minimum three years of bedside nursing in hospital setting required.
Minimum one year case management experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: In-depth knowledge of case management practice and methodologies as applicable to radiation medicine, proton therapy, and international patients required.
Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required.
Exhibits professionalism in behavior, dress and conversation at all times.
Communicate effectively in person, in writing and on the telephone required.
Able to speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association required.
