It’s possible! Onsite from the Fontana, CA plant The EHS Specialist has responsibility for the continuous improvement and support of the Corporate EH&S programs for James Hardie.
This position will provide support and training to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Company EH&S requirements at Fontana R&D Center.
The EHS Specialist will support and collaborate with the Central EHS to support the execution of initiatives, drive adherence to standards and work with stakeholders to determine day-to-day health and safety priorities.
What You’ll Do: Implement EHS programs and monitor activities for compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements (Cal/OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT).
Manage hazardous waste program including oversight of hazardous waste management.
Manage all aspects of lab safety for research and technical operation laboratories.
Implement chemical safety and emergency response initiatives.
Help oversee chemical inventory and acquisition, obtain safety data sheets (SDSs), as needed, and ensure compliance with regulations regarding usage and storage.
Coordinate and administer new employee, visitor, contractor, and annual safety training.
Conduct regular inspections of laboratory, manufacturing, and administrative areas.
Assist in incident reports, investigation of all work-related accidents, injuries and near-miss, maintain OSHA log.
Support the Leadership team in providing EHS advice relating to projects and activities.
Working proactively with the Rosehill R&D Safety team.
Support the sites EHS Strategy deployment Participate in EHS Committee and provide support to committee chairperson and secretary as required What You’ll Bring: Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and resourcefulness Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent stakeholder management skills The ability to balance multiple competing priorities and take a pragmatic commercial approach Demonstrated ability to take initiative in providing new ideas to improve process efficiencies Ability to maintain contemporary knowledge of industry changes and best practice Proven ability to work independently, and collaborate cross-functionally Knowledge Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, safety science, environmental science, or other closely related degree from an accredited college/university.
Professional certification strongly preferred (Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (or equivalent certification in country or jurisdiction) or eligible for certification.
Strong knowledge of Federal, State, and Local EH&S related regulations.
Computer proficiency ability, Microsoft Office preferred.
Sound knowledge of relevant OSHA regulations and ISO requirements Experience working within an EHS environment (utilising an EHS Management System, technology, and tools) Experience Three or more years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience, preferably in the R&D area, manufacturing, or chemical industries.
Exceptional organization and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills that enable effective interaction/communication with management at many levels.
Effective leadership abilities.
Comfortable presenting and training in large and small groups (training/presentation, communication with site management).
