Job Summary The Program Manager for R&D oversees the execution of strategic new product platforms, coordinating cross-functional activities across multiple underlying, interconnected product development projects to achieve large scale, long-term business objectives, that drive strategic benefits and organizational growth.
This role manages both the new product platform and its constituent product launches, giving detailed attention to platform strategy and project implementation.
Program Manager delivers by leading teams and following Project Management methodologies developed under the Global Transformation Management Office (GTMO).
The incumbent will help facilitate, report, resolve and escalate topics to achieve seamless execution of the James Hardie Operating System (HOS).
The Program Manager will provide project management consistent with JH standards and in partnership with their respective Portfolio Management Office (PMO).
What You’ll Do: The Project Manager assigned to the R&D will oversee James Hardie’s multi-generational new product development platforms and their component projects from initial scoping to product launch.
This role will be responsible for managing timeline, dependencies and budget for these strategic new product development projects, collaborating closely with cross-functional resources to enable on-time and on-budget completion.
Project Manager will report directly to the VP of Innovation to Commercialization, PMO for the R&PD organization.
Key Responsibilities Manage execution of strategic, complex, functional, and cross-functional R&D platforms and all new product projects therein, from inception to successful commercial deployment, exercising organizational, leadership, and management skills to successfully launch new products and solutions Lead and facilitate cross-functional teams including Insights, Product and Engineering resources to define new product platform goals, deliverables, milestones, translating those into resources, budget, and schedules by project Lead new product project teams in implementing and applying standard processes for risk management, issue management, quality assurance, and project communications to all stakeholders, including senior management, on a timely basis Guide team members on the use of project tools and in the successful preparation for platform roadmap and stage gate reviews, in line with our Hardie Operating System (HOS) Drive alignment between new product platforms and technologies being developed with R&D.
Provide timely and accurate communications to stakeholders, including overall status, health, and business benefits tracking for both the overall platform and the projects within scope Drive objectivity over subjectivity in the platform status reporting process Manage multiple strategic R&D platforms, projects and enhancements with respective PMs across the globe Anticipate resourcing needs and develop/modify plans accordingly to achieve desired results Facilitate and contribute to the continuous improvement of a standard project management methodologies including, but not limited to, project execution, approval, and reporting based on standard PMI practices adopted by the GTMO Apply structured Change Management methods to projects and lead change management activities, including stakeholder assessment, communication, training/ coaching, and resistance management Facilitate and contribute to the continuous improvement of a standard Change Management methodology, consisting of an Organizational Change Management toolkit with processes, techniques, and templates Mentor and train business team members to build consistent project management and change management practices across the function The position responsibilities outlined above are in no way to be construed as all encompassing.

What You’ll Bring: Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Project Management or similar fields MBA in Operations, Product Development or Product Management highly desired Minimum of 7 years of experience with project management for new product development required, including working knowledge of stage gate methodologies Experience working with Human-Centered Design / Design Thinking Frameworks highly desired Project Management Certification (PMP) highly desired Experience working in a matrix organization beneficial Other Skills Strong knowledge of stage gate project lifecycles and industry-leading program and project management practices and methodologies Demonstrated project management planning/ execution skills with a record of leading large projects to obtain tangible business results Tasks and resource management experience Demonstrated business knowledge and excellence in building relationships with cross-functional internal and external teams Ability to drive project management standards across the organization by helping functional teams understand, see and utilize its benefits Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, inform, and collaborate with all levels of leadership Effective leader of cross functional teams; ability to work collaboratively with and through others Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to articulate messages to a variety of audiences Critical Thinking and ability to navigate multiple priorities Proficiency with leading project and resource management tools, such as Microsoft Project, Excel and Smartsheet Ability to travel an average of <20% including international as needed What You’ll Receive: At James Hardie, we recognize that our success depends on our people.

Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, market conditions, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
This position qualifies for benefits which may also include a discretionary bonus.
