THE PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE: The Senior Manager, Joining Systems, will be responsible to lead and manage a high performing team of Scientists, Engineers, and Technologists to develop next generation installation systems in collaboration with insights to innovation, product development and other technology teams from concept development, feasibility study and technology/product development.
This role will also be responsible for executing on R&D's technology strategies and technology projects to deliver new product innovation to the market.
Desired expertise and knowledge areas will be in the installation or design of building materials, with an added advantage for previous experience in developing technology roadmaps.
This position will report to the Director of Surfaces & Aesthetics and will have a highly visible position in the organization.
What You’ll Do: To influence, connect and communicate with senior stakeholders with relation to installation and joining methodologies of our current products, to crystalize opportunity areas into actionable projects and technology roadmaps.
Lead the comprehensive evaluation of current technology in the field of subtractive manufacturing, (i.
e.
, joining) leveraging your expertise to identify areas for improvement by discerning gaps in technology compared to current state.
Foster collaboration between the global R&D team (including other technology teams, product development teams and application engineering), and internal installation experts at JH to assess existing solutions and identify areas that necessitate enhanced technological solutions.
Drive the development, acquisition, and implementation of cutting-edge capabilities within the facility, facilitating the execution of key projects on joint design solutions.
This includes the development of mathematical models, machining tools, and pilot-scale equipment, emphasizing predictive scale-up for this technology.
Establish and lead a team of skilled Scientists and Engineers, to increase capability in machining and joining techniques specific to fiber cement building products.
This expertise should be geared towards optimizing the installation of these products.
Champion the professional growth of team members, ensuring that they are equipped to take on increased responsibilities within the organization and within the Hardie brand.
Thrive in a dynamic and agile work environment, adapting quickly to evolving circumstances and industry trends.
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with internal colleagues, customers, external vendors and service providers by: Communicating project progress accurately and timely to Technical and Business leaders.
Collaborating with other technical managers on projects to maximize the utilization of the expertise and sharing of resources Develops the processes, tools and techniques to manage the teams to achieve the required outcomes, and to realize organizational and business operational goals by: Ensuring workforce resources are in place and aligned with business needs and organization culture.
Managing, coaching, and developing direct reports, comprising of senior technical professionals and other leaders as required and empowering them to exceptional performance.
Providing direction and guidance for team leaders within the R&D organization in various committees, work groups and task force teams Resolving team conflicts, listening to different perspectives and ideas, offering expertise, and defining objectives and overall vision.
Promoting organizational change and adoption of common business processes; and Building capability of team members to ensure bench strength within the department Creates an awareness of the importance of maximizing operational efficiency within JH Research and other functional groups that work closely with R&D by: Foster an innovative and agile working environment to support cross-functional collaboration Manage the generation of Intellectual Property and Trade secrets in the areas of technology development Foster and maintain a culture of ZeroHarm: Ensure that James Hardie’s operations are in line with Work Health and Safety Requirements at all times.

What You’ll Bring: KNOWLEDGE Bachelor’s in Structural Engineering with a Professional Engineer (PE) license, OR Master’s or Ph.

in Structural or Mechanical Engineering Knowledge in project management tools (advantageous) SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Strong practical experience in the installation or design of building materials, with an added advantage for previous experience in developing technology roadmaps.

Demonstrate an aptitude for critically questioning results and providing insightful recommendations for continuous improvement and innovative solutions.
Exhibit strong project management skills, overseeing tasks from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
Ability to travel to various work locations (including internationally), as required by the nature of the job and specific project demands.
Possess strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey research findings through clear presentations and comprehensive reports.
